I wish to say a special thanks to the Victorian State Emergency Service – these are the often unsung and unseen heroes who provide services for flood and storm emergencies and provide the largest road rescue network in Australia. Our communities have needed resilience during this dreadful fire season to remain, in Churchills words “undaunted by the odds and unwearied by constant challenge and mortal danger”.
It grieves me to think back on the horror of the firestorms that raged through our communities just 10 years ago. For many this is a private time. We will all grieve the losses in different ways, some in public services, some with private tears. I know there are many who would prefer to forget.
