Members Statement-Heart Week

May 4, 2021 | News, Parliament

Mr BARTON (Eastern Metropolitan) (12:55): I want to congratulate all the winners from the School Sport Victoria state swimming championships held on 26 April.

I heard that all the kids brought their A game, and they had lots of fun and made their schools proud. But I particularly want to say to my little friend Duke: well done, mate.

School Sport Victoria State Swimming ChampionshipsHeart Week 2021

I also want to acknowledge that this week is Heart Week. Heart Week is an opportunity for health professionals and the Australian public to start a conversation about heart health and the steps that we all need to take to reduce our risk of developing heart disease. Cardiovascular disease causes more than one in four deaths in Australia and accounts for over 1600 hospitalisations each day. This Heart Week it is so important that we focus on our heart health by visiting our local GP for our heart health check. Try the heart age calculator at myheartage.org and encourage friends and family to do the same. One Australian has a heart attack or a stroke every 4 minutes. Many of these could be prevented. Let us support each other in looking after our heart health and get that number down.
