Stop Touting in Victoria
On November 13 Victoria’s legislative council will debate Rod Barton’s private member bill to reinstate touting offences in Victoria.
Since Rod arrived in parliament he has been calling on the Government to toughen up on touting. When the taxi industry reforms were introduced in August 2017 to allow rideshare into the market the rules on touting were removed from the Transport Act. Since then touting has become a growing problem at Melbourne Airport and major events across the city.
Touting is not safe. It’s not cheaper, and it’s not fair.
What can I do?
The legislative council will debate and vote on this bill on November 13.
Write to your local MLC member, the Minister for Public Transport and Premier Daniel Andrews and ask them to support the Commercial Passenger Vehicle Industry Amendment Bill 2019 and make touting in Victoria an offence.

The battle to end touting
Touting is a consequence of an industry in chaos. It is dangerous and it must stop. Read the timeline of Rod’s work this year to bring an end to the dangerous practice of touting.

Touting is unsafe but drivers say they have no choice – the Government’s handling of rideshare services entering the Victorian market has left the taxi industry in a mess.
