Children the invisible victims of crime

Jan 3, 2024 | News

In my time in Parliament, I don’t believe I wasted a moment highlighting those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged in our society.
As a crossbench member we have limited opportunities to bring forward a parliamentary inquiry. I never wasted an opportunity to initiate an inquiry into a failure. I moved parliamentary inquiries into the taxi reforms of 2017, homelessness, school-bus disadvantage, free trams expansion to include seniors and students, and, of course, the impact on children who have parents in custody.
These kids are the invisible victims of crime! Many of the inquiries I initiated were not trendy or politically popular, but all of them not only impacted me personally but also many tens of thousands of others in our society.
These inquiries are stepping stones to legislative change, and the government should be more respectful to those members of our community who make submissions and work in these areas, as well as the parliamentarians and parliamentary staff who take this work so seriously.
So proud others are continuing this very important work.
